"Remembering God's Deeds"

Deuteronomy 6:10-25

Psychologically, human beings remember negative or painful events more than positive or pleasant events. It is easy for man to forget the good things that others do to him. It seems that it also applies to God's deeds for man.

Before God's people reached the land of Canaan, God reminded through Moses that the people would always remember God's deeds that saved them (10-12). God's people must remember the signs and miracles God performed to bring them out of the land of Egypt (20-23). The response to God's deeds is to fear God and worship Him (13); hold on to the commandments, warnings, and statutes of the Lord (17, 24); and be faithful to Him by not turning to another God (14, 25).

Worship and obedience to God is not based on the deeds of God's people, but on the deeds of God's hands. When children ask why they follow God, parents should be able to tell god's deeds.

Following and worshipping God is God's saving deed. For every Christian the same thing applies; we follow God and worship Him because of God's deeds that have saved us from sin.

Thus, we must always remember the deeds of the hand of God in our lives. Remembering the deeds of His hands becomes the basis for us to worship and worship Him. By remembering the deeds of His hands, we are reminded also to keep faithfulness and not turn to other gods.

In our daily lives, we can remember God's deeds through singing, prayer, and specifically directing our minds to God. When we worship, focus on God's deeds, not on our deeds! The motivation for our worship is not our effort to be blessed, but our response to the God who has blessed us. So, worship is our form of devotion to God.
