Body Detox - What Is Detoxing and What To Expect

Doing a body detox is a way to improve your health and wellness. Detoxing is a way to get rid of bad toxins in your body. This alone will raise your energy level by eliminating these toxins that make you feel sluggish and tired. Doing a detox will give you energy and at the same time help you lose weight.

There are two types of toxins: controllable and uncontrollable. The controllable ones come from what you take in via food, drinks, etc.. You can reduce your intake of these toxins by a body detox. Uncontrollable ones are from things such as the air you breath and what environment you subject your body to like bath water.

You will find all kinds of diets and articles all over the internet about detoxing. Some claiming to complete the process in 2 days and some claiming to within 10 days. However, they are all very similar. The length of time to detox depends on the level of toxins in your body and how strict you stay to the process.

The basis to detoxing your body is living and eating healthy also known as cleansing and refreshing. Refreshing refers to the process of restoring the electrolytes and other nutrients your body loses during the cleansing process. Eating healthy refers to eating organic, nutrient-dense, and minimally processed foods. You should eat less animal protein and eat more alkaline with fresh vegetables. Eliminate alcohol, sugar, processed foods, sodas, and trans fat. All of these items puts harmful waste in your body.

Sleep is another important process to detox. Sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a night. Sleeping is a way to allow your body to rest and heal. It allows your body to focus more on the detoxification process.

You should drink lots of water. This helps your kidneys flush toxins out of your body. At the same time it keeps you hydrated and it will also help suppress your appetite. Purified water is better than regular tap water.

Exercise is also another important part of. This helps with your circulation and breathing. It will also help your skin to sweat and stretch. Exercising will also help with weight loss.

Taking a detox bath can also help with the process. Put 2 cups of Epson salt and a half a cup of baking soda in your bath water. Some people add their favorite essential oils too.

Hope this helps and good luck with your detoxing process.

A Time to Heal

A Time to Heal

By Rhonda Kitts

Step 1: Detox

Prior to beginning my journey back to healthy living, I was under the understanding that if I wasn't feeling well, I needed to add something - maybe a medicine or if I preferred the natural route, perhaps a vitamin, herb, or even a new exercise program.

With thousands of products, services, and programs out there for general health, how do you know where to begin?

It might seem overwhelming, but your health journey can become your most exciting journey when done with the right intention and the right knowledge.

If we first and foremost understand that we are three components: the mind, the body, and the spirit. Each of these three components needs to be taken care of with proper health habits in order to feel our best as a whole.

Although sometimes we do need to add something, in a general sense, the first step in a healing journey is to detox. What exactly does that mean when broken down into our three aspects of mind, body, and spirit?

Detoxing the Mind

Our words, thoughts, and feelings contribute greatly to either a sense of well-being, or a stress-filled survival mode. If you find that your mind is not the most pleasant home to reside in, it might be time to think about your thoughts you are allowing in. Do you consistently have worried thoughts? Is your mind constantly analyzing situations? What might be wrong in situations in order to "fix" them?

The mind can be reprogrammed. It is called "neuroplasticity" which literally refers to the neurotransmitters as being malleable, reformable. It is not a quick fix and just like any other addiction, negative thought patterns give us a nice, although temporary, soothing effect. Understanding that the reprogramming process begins with difficulty and gets easier with time is important.

Detoxing the Body

Our bodies need assistance with this process and the most effective methods of detox are also the most ancient. There are great regimes out there for detoxing just about any organ you would like to focus on. All you need is Google and you're well on your way.

My favorite way to detox is with reflexology. For me, all I need to do is take off my shoes and the reflexologist does the rest - and it feels wonderful! Reflexology consists of rubbing the foot and focusing on the reflex points of the foot, which correspond to the specific organs in our bodies. As a busy mom, entrepreneur, and business owner, I have limited down time and this is the most efficient way I have found to keep my body clean on the inside.

It is a very powerful form of detox and care should be taken to schedule your first session at a time when you can rest for a day or two after. I've had sessions where the detox was so strong that I was shaking on the table as the toxins were released from my organs back into my bloodstream. This was after many years on pharmaceutical medications and I have a genetic marker for detox missing, so my results were not typical.

If you want to really turn your health around for the better, I recommend monthly reflexology sessions as well as regular massage for overall body detox.

Detoxing the Spirit

First of all, let's define what this means in a mind, body, spirit approach. What exactly is spirit? The mind, body spirit approach to health and wellness is not a religious view, but rather a holistic view of our whole being, including the body we see and the ethereal body most of us cannot see. Our spirit can also be identified as our aura or energy field and it extends anywhere from a few inches to several feet out from our physical bodies, depending on our spiritual health.

The first step to detox our energy field is to avoid situations and relationships where negative energy might be present. Negativity and arguments are very unhealthy for the energy body.

If you can imagine your energy body as a magnetic force, it becomes easier to understand the concept of picking up energy everywhere you go. You've heard the phrase, "You become who you hang around." This is very true.

There are exercises that can be practiced to protect your energy field and breathing exercises and meditations that can be practiced to clean your aura. Grounding is also very important and there are exercises to help balance your energy as well.

I explain these processes in more detail in articles on my website http://www.rhondakitts.com if you are interested in exploring this further.

Do Yourself This Favor: Technology Cleanse

Do Yourself This Favor: Technology Cleanse

By Aaron Phillips

New disorders have been named to accommodate the growing number of people addicted to specific technologies; World of Warcraft and other video games, Facebook, Smartphones at dinner, Candy Crush, and more. Anyone remember the craze of the most addicting Facebook game of them all, Farmville?! Most Americans can say they would like to be less glued to their technology. Screen time has been known to cause sleep disturbance, and with work becoming more mobile, it becomes more and more invasive of our personal time. You can set boundaries, and a priming technology cleanse might be just what the doctor ordered to begin living in the real world and online with balance. Follow the following suggestions to have a successful technology cleanse.

Outline Your Cleanse

Without a plan, you plan to fail. Technology cleanses are probably one of the hardest cleanses to endure because it's not a physical challenge, but a mental one. Decide how long you will cleanse for (typically 2-3 days or a week) and plan to begin 2-3 days prior so that you are not quitting cold turkey. Also set parameters of what technology you will obstain from, or when you will be able to use them. During this planning phase, decide what you want to spend your time doing instead. You will need this outline to refer to when you are feeling the itch, which brings us to our next point; relapse prevention.

Relapse Pre-Prevention

Decide why you are doing this technology cleanse and write your answer down. Place this card somewhere you will see it daily as a reminder, or keep it on you at all times. I'd suggest you take a picture with your phone so you always have it, but during a technology cleanse, you may not have that luxury. Revisit your "why" when you feel "the itch".

Some last important suggestions before you get started are to notify anyone who needs to know you are doing a technology cleanse. This may be people you work with or for, Facebook friends or groups you normally converse with, or people closest to you that can help support you during your cleanse. Prepare for your return to technology, too. One of the best ways to do this is to unsubscribe to any email subscriptions you no longer care for. Go through and uninstall any unnecessary apps and turn off unnecessary notifications of the apps you are keeping. The last suggestion of this article is to learn to use 'Airplane Mode' which disables your phone's ability to send or receive text messages, calls, or notifications. This mode may also be sometimes called flight mode, standalone mode, or offline mode and can be used in a number of situations. You can enable flight mode when you don't want to be disturbed, when going into important meetings, to charge your battery faster, or reserve the battery life you already have.

Your Body's Natural Way To Detox And Repair

Your Body's Natural Way To Detox And Repair

By Ray Ayuso

Autophagy is the natural process by which our body removes out cellular junk to let new cell growth. It makes total sense that our body needs an internal clean up to detox and repair it self. Autophagy destroys parts of the cell, proteins and cell membranes which are not functioning properly.

How Autophagy Works

It is a biological process, where the key players are tiny cells called lysosomes, which contain enzymes needed to digest and breakdown parts of the cell that no longer function properly.

That said, there is a dangerous side because lysosomes are very effective and a prolonged state of autophagy can lead to cell death, a process called autolysis. So a certain amount of autophagy is good, but too much can be damaging for our health.

Why this Cellular Junk Removal Process is so necessary

Our body needs to regularly clean out any junk that is lying around in our cells, or else our cells become less efficient and deteriorate. When our cells are not working properly, our body becomes more sensible to degeneration.

Autophagy makes our bodies more efficient, stops cancerous growth and metabolic dysfunction like diabetes and obesity.

How autophagy affects our cells

With it we keep our cells healthy. Our cells need cleaning from ineffective parts to avoid an imbalance between free radical damage and the antioxidants needed to prevent it. Without it, our body will experience inflammation caused by an oxidative stress.

It is also necessary to keep muscle strength as you age. By removing cellular junk your muscle stem cells continue to repair your tissues. This is the main reason detox is so important for older athletes.

How can you activate it

Intermitent fasting: autophagy is activated when we put our body under mild stress.

Exercise: With exercise we activate detox of our body and cellular renewal. When you exercise your body experiences mild stress, which promotes growth and activates the process.

Ketosis: A low carbohydrate diet induces Ketosis, a state when our liver produces ketones which become the primary fuel for our body. This process activated autophagy which sends the signal to our body to start cleaning our cells.

Our health depends on our healthy cells, that is why our body uses autophagy to revitalize our cells. You can also take supplements to support your body at the cellular level and improve its function.

You may have heard about various detox natural treatments that people use to clean up their body and lose weight, it does work but you need to take the right supplements that activate autophagy.

Understanding Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

Alcohol addiction is a pervasive problem in the United States, posing a serious threat to the physical and mental health of a person involved in heavy drinking. However, the social acceptance of drinking makes it difficult to identify the problem of alcoholism in the initial stages. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), approximately 86.4 percent of people above 18 years reportedly drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime.

One of the most problematic conditions associated with alcoholism is the alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS). It is a life-threatening condition wherein a person who cannot live without drinking a single day suddenly ceases to consume alcohol altogether or drastically reduces its intake. The symptoms of AWS develop as early as two hours after the last drink, and range from mild issues, such as anxiety and shakiness, to severe complications, such as seizures and delirium tremens (DT).

Symptoms and causes of AWS

Typically, the symptoms of AWS can be categorized into the following three categories:

Mild symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, nausea, abdominal pain and/or vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, tremors, depression, foggy thinking, mood swings and heart palpitations.

Moderate symptoms such as, increased blood pressure, high body temperature and respiration rate, irregular heart rate, mental confusion, sweating, irritability and heightened mood disturbances.

Severe symptoms or delirium tremens, comprising hallucinations, fever, seizures, severe confusion and agitation.

AWS is triggered by multiple factors that irritate the central nervous system (CNS). Drinking heavily over a prolonged period disrupts the brain's neurotransmitters, which transmit messages.

Initially, drinking alcohol enhances the effects of GABA, the neurotransmitter that makes an individual feel calm and relaxed. But, when a person drastically increases his or her alcohol intake, it suppresses the GABA activity, which, in turn, leads to a higher tolerance level-the stage at which more and more alcohol is need to get the desired effect.

Similarly, when a heavy drinker suddenly puts a break on his or her drinking habit, the neurotransmitters that were held back previously are not suppressed anymore, resulting in a rebound or a phenomenon known as "hyperexcitability." Apparently, people continue to drink

due to the fear of alcohol withdrawal, which is often difficult to handle due to debilitating symptoms accompanying it such as anxiety, irritability and tremors.

Leading an alcohol-free life is possible

The first step to safely detox from alcohol begins by removing toxins from the body under medical supervision. This should be accompanied by medications that can treat the subsequent symptoms of nausea, tremors and irritability. It is also important to include a healthy diet and regular sleep in the entire detox plan as treating malnutrition and insomnia are essential to ensure a faster recovery.

The specialized treatment facilities that offer inpatient, outpatient or medication-assisted treatment can also be opted for a healthy recovery of an individual dealing with alcohol addiction. Attending counseling sessions and getting help from support groups should also be the priority of an individual grappling with alcoholism.

Tips for Parents to Identify an Addiction Problem in Their Children

Addiction can begin at any stage of life. However, teens and youngsters are at the highest risk of developing addiction to alcohol or drugs. Teen drug addiction is a serious issue in the United States, with parents facing insurmountable challenges in helping their children kick the habit and starting the life afresh.

According to the 2016 report by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), approximately 5.4 percent among 8th graders, 9.8 percent among 10th graders, and 14.3 percent among 12th graders abused illicit drugs other than marijuana in 2015.

In such a situation, it is important for parents, friends, and loved ones to recognize any probable signs of drug addiction and seek immediate professional help in case the addiction problem goes out of control. Parents, being the closest to the children, should be extra cautious and keep an eye on anything unusual happening to their child, including signs of drug use and misuse, which, if undetected, could develop into a full-blown addiction.

Here are a few simple tips for the parents of substance abusers to help them recognize the symptoms of addiction early on, helping their child lead a normal life:

Being a tough parent, when required: If parents are sure that their child has been indulging in some illicit act, it is important for them to show some strictness in their behavior. By being tough, parent can make their teens understand what is right and what is wrong. When it comes to illicit drugs, it is the responsibility of the father to help the child understand that it is bad for him or her and lead the child to the right path.

Strengthening the relationship with the child: To help a child overcome his or her substance abuse problem, it is important for the parents to establish a strong and positive relationship with him or her. Regularly communicating with the child can go a long way in fostering a strong bonding and letting the child to be open about his or her thoughts and views. The best way to encourage this is to engage the child in open-ended discussions where they can clearly express their views on different topics, making it easier for parents to predict their addictive behavior.

Encouraging positive behavior: Parents should make it a point not to diminish their child's self-confidence, self-esteem and personal power by focusing too much on their mistakes. On the other hand, focusing on their positive attitude and encouraging them to perform better in school or at work can help the child stay away from any sort of illegal substances.

Setting clear boundaries: Guidelines being a set of rules are easy to follow, whereas boundaries are more like limitations that have been imposed. But to safeguard the child from developing an addictive behavior, it is important to set certain boundaries for him or her. However, one must remember that these boundaries are set during periods of calm so that it is easier for the children to understand their importance and implement those that are acceptable.

Consulting the child's pediatrician: If a child has developed an addictive behavior and intervention of parents is unable to help, it is time to seek help from the child's pediatrician. Since different drugs require different types of treatments, one must seek the most appropriate remedy to avoid misdiagnosis or improper treatment.

Help is just a call away

Interacting with one's child on a regular basis will not only bridge the gap between the parent and the child but also keep the child away from any sort of illicit substances.

Addiction is overpowering. Therefore, in case your child is addicted to a substance, and you are seeking professional help from one of the best detox centers, get in touch with the California Detox Helpline. Call at our 24/7 helpline number 855-780-2495, and our representatives would be happy to assist you with the required information about the best retreat centers.

How Drug Detox Can Help Improve Relationships

Alcohol and drug abuse is the root cause of many problems in an individual's life. From developing severe mental health issues and physical troubles to encountering serious challenges in one's relationships, abuse of illegal substances is linked with innumerable adverse effects.

It is a widely known fact that long-term, committed relationships and substance abuse do not go together. Having a partner who is engaged in drinking or abusing drugs can be an insurmountable challenge, with the negative effects rippling and influencing all the near and dear ones. In worst cases, substance abuse problem can take a heavy toll by causing an emotional distance between the partners, which eventually results in frequent fights and violence at home.

Sadly, a person fighting substance abuse is deprived of the emotional connect with his or her partner resulting in the loss of trust and affection. Overall, such couples have a tough time dealing with this downward spiral, wherein a person drinks or uses drugs to reduce tension arising out of frequent conflicts, and vice versa.

Substance abuse and impact on relationships

A person abusing drugs is very likely to have a poor sex drive and may fail to maintain a healthy sexual relationship. This is because when someone is addicted to any substance, there is no room left for anything else. Some of the telltale signs that the substance abuse problem is negatively affecting one's relationships are:

Not taking care of responsibilities or staying out late.

Rising instances of domestic violence.

Isolating from friends and relatives to hide the drug or alcohol problem.

Experiencing financial problems.

When it comes to intimate relationships, believing that one can prevent problems by avoiding sexual relationships post sobriety is incorrect. A complete recovery is possible only when a person gets enough love and care from his or her partner. Since intimate relationships are considered one of the most rewarding parts of human existence, a lack of it can leave people feeling unwanted and incomplete.

For a person recovering from an addiction, lack of sexual relationships might lead him or her to revisit the places that had triggered drug or alcohol abuse.

How detox can be helpful in restoring relationships

When a person fighting substance abuse enters a detox program, he or she needs to work harder to recover from the addiction and regain his or her ability to enjoy fruitful relationships with the loved ones. While undergoing treatment, it is important for a person to not just focus on maintaining sobriety but also reshape his or her habits and old attitudes that could act as a barrier to his or her interpersonal or intimate relationships.

While detoxification might pave the way for a person's recover from an addiction, it is important to ensure that it also brings back his or her sexual drive. With low self-esteem and confidence, it becomes difficult for the recovering individual to even think about any personal relationship. Undergoing a detox program can be a great help in gaining enough confidence to deal with relationship problems.
