11 Words to Watch for When Eating Out

Unhealthy key words on the menu:

1. Fried

Fried is probably the most obvious red-flag when you are trying to eat healthy. Fried means that the food has been covered and cooked in oil, and this cooking process adds a lot of extra, bad fat to the food.

2. Crumbed, battered or breaded

Crumbed, battered or breaded mean that the food has had a coating added to it. Usually, these foods are also fried. For example, battered fish is covered in a batter and then deep fried. Through this process, these foods have extra carbohydrates and fats added to them.

3. Marinated

The degree of unhealthiness of marinated food depends on the type of marinade. There can be perfectly harmless marinades of herbs, spices and vinegars, or there can be marinades full of sugar and oils. I tend to avoid foods that have been marinated because usually restaurants use marinades full of sugar and fats because they taste better.

4. Smothered

Smothered is an instant red-flag for me. Smothered usually means covered in some type of sauce, cheese or other topping. Depending on the food, this can add a lot of unwanted carbohydrates and bad fats to a meal.

Healthy key words on the menu:

5. Grilled

Grilling food usually means that the food has been cooked in minimal oil on a hot surface. Grilling cooks the food without adding any extra fat or carbohydrates to the food.

6. Blackened

Blackened is basically the same as grilled, except before the food is placed on the hot surface it is covered in herbs and spices. Blackened food is delicious and full of flavor, without the added nasties.

7. Baked

Baked foods, especially fish, are delicious. The food is cooked in an oven. Because it is baked in an oven, oil is not necessary and is minimally used. Baked foods have time to develop rich flavors in the oven and often get a crisp and delicious outer layer.

8. Roasted

Roasting is basically the same as baking. Roasting is generally the term used for meats such as beef, turkey and pork that have been cooked for a long period in an oven. Roasting develops rich flavors in the food and the fat cooks and drains out of the meat.

9. Steamed

Steamed is a method of cooking most often used for fish and vegetables. It involves putting the vegetables or fish above a boiling pot of water and using the steam to cook the food. This process cooks the food without any oil or other nasties. Steaming also keeps vegetables tasting fresher than other cooking methods.

10. Seared

Seared foods are foods that have been cooked on a very hot surface for a short period. The food is cooked with minimal or no oil and has a very short cooking time so that it does not absorb as much oil as other cooking methods.

11. Raw

Raw is probably the most obvious term and does not require much explanation. Raw foods are in the natural state and haven't been cooked.

Healthy Eating - Combat Your Food Cravings With These Healthier Choices

If you are attempting to eat healthier on a regular basis, cravings are something you are going to be dealing with from time to time. Whether you tend to crave sweet, salty, or savory foods, they occur, and it can be hard to turn down your favorite choices. But, if you want to see optimal health, you must. Fortunately, if you have a game plan in place where you consume smarter alternatives, these cravings do not have to get you down.

Let's go over a few of the more reasonable food swap choices...

1. Sweet: Fruit. If your sweet tooth is calling your name, there is no better choice than to go for fresh fruit. Fruit will provide a small amount of natural fruit sugar, but with that, you will also take in a healthy dose of dietary fiber, which will be sure to help combat any blood sugar spike.

Fruit is also loaded with antioxidants, so an excellent choice as far as improving your overall health is concerned as well.

2. Savory: Peanut Butter On Ezekiel Bread. You can kill three cravings in one with this option: savory, sweet, and salty. Peanut butter offers a great mix of tastes, which is why so many people love it as much as they do.

One tablespoon of peanut butter smeared over a toasted slice of Ezekiel bread is not a bad snack if you plan to be a bit more active in the hours to come. It is a good source of dietary fiber and will also provide you with protein and healthy fats.

3. Creamy: Greek Yogurt. If creamy is what you crave, ice cream may be top of your list. But, the sugar and fat found in ice cream make it far less than desirable. Instead, try Greek yogurt. This light snack will provide you with more protein and fewer carbs, not to mention it can be virtually fat-free.

Add a few fresh berries for flavor, and you are set.

4. Salty: Cottage Cheese With Pistachios. Finally, if a salty taste is what you are yearning for, consider a small bowl of cottage cheese topped with a few pistachios. Cottage cheese with pistachios is a great pre-bed snack as it contains a slower digesting source of protein and the pistachios will give a dose of healthy fats.

Both do have a salty taste to them but do be aware cottage cheese contains salt itself. Therefore you will want to modify your food choices during the day to ensure your salt intake stays under control.

Do not let cravings get you down any longer. Use these healthy food swaps, and you can eat right without feeling deprived.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

The Weight Gain Formula

Weight gain seems to be kind of an isolated subject. We don't usually encounter too many people on a daily basis who wants to gain weight. The mass are probably shouting out now, "who wants to gain weight?".

While it is true for every three to four people we meet, at least two of them wants to lose an inch or two. A pound here or a few pounds there. Unfortunately there are also many individuals whose desire is to pack on the pounds for one reason or another.

The most common reason for the need to gain weight most likely is due to some type of illness. Sometimes under weight issues are caused by poor diets and improper nutrition.

For most people gaining weight comes easily but for others it may seem like a never ending uphill battle. It's been proven gaining weight can be just as difficult as losing weight for some.

How To Gain Weight

First and foremost, someone who wants to increase in weight should start with the essential requirements for the body's overall health. Making sure to eat three well balanced meals each day. Making it a habit to do movement exercises along with drinking accurate amounts of fluids daily, plus getting proper rest each night is a huge step in the right direction for supplying the body with what is needful.

Beyond the essentials, I believe there are other factors which contributes to properly gaining healthy weight. In fact there are six areas I consider needs to be well balanced and they are mindset, knowledge, nutrition, supplements, exercise as well as support.

I want to briefly touch on each area, starting with mindset. Having a right mindset is highly important to the weight gain process. It requires making a sound decision and seeing it through.

Once the decision is made then comes knowledge. Understanding what creates weight, becoming aware of the concept about eating larger portions. Eating to gain weight by grasping the fact you have to eat more calories than you expend.

Nutrition plays a big part when it come to gaining. Many people will tell you to eat any type of food if you want to gain weight, just as long as you eat, eat and eat. This is totally false because the motive is to achieve healthy weight gain results instead of flabby results. Good food choices will consist of sufficient amounts of proteins and good fats.

Sometimes in order to help bring balance into your body, supplements are required to reach healthy weight goals. The right supplements are packed with the appropriate vitamins and minerals.

We all know exercise is important to our bodies overall health. However when seeking to gain weight there are some exercises which must be avoided during the process. The idea is to slow down your metabolism, not speed it up.
It is highly recommended to surround yourself with a group of good supporters. People who are truly in your corner as you are trying to reach your weight goals. Do your best to stay around like minded people.

There are a number of contributing factors to the process of gaining weight. However, the bottom line is, whenever the body is deficient in minerals or any vitamins, it becomes extremely harder to gain body weight. By consuming supplements packed with quality nutrients will take care of mineral depletion in the body only.

Take into account good food, rest and exercise as well as age, body health, eating habits and other habits does have an important role in how successful your weight gain formula becomes.

When you combine all these elements together and stick to the process you have a greater chance at reaching any weight gain goals you set for yourself. I recommend doing your research in the fields of nutrition and health and go from there.

A helpful book to give more in dept information on how to eat to gain and other helpful sources is titled "Too Skinny" and can be found on Amazon.

If you are part of the elite group who are desperately looking to pack on more pounds, it is my hope this weight gain formula will assist in moving you forward and closer to your weight gain journey.

You will get repeat customers who love what you do and come in for regular work.

You will also be able to generate new customers who happen to come in and ask for some type of manicure or nail art to be completed. Your customers will get plenty of compliments on the work and share with others who did it for them. It all starts with finding a good fit as not every nail tech course is the same.

Meets Standards

In order to become certified, you need to complete a nail tech course that meets the industry standards. As you shop around for a great program, you need to ask about that. Don't waste your time or money on something that isn't going to get your foot in the door to work at a salon. They are going to ask for your credentials so make sure what you have to offer will be accepted.

Sanitation

The beginning of any nail tech course should cover the sanitation and cleanliness aspects of the job. It is important to maintain a clean work environment and for all of your tools to be kept clean. There are standard procedures you must follow or you will be putting your customers at risk.

Chemical Handling and Processing

You will come into contact with various types of chemicals. Knowing how to handle them, how to mix, them and how to apply them for your customer needs is all very important. Such information will be a very important part of any quality nail tech course. Failure to follow the right procedures can cause problems for you or your customers.

You will practice a variety of hands on creations and techniques during the nail tech course. It is a good idea to take pictures of them so you share with potential clients when you have to offer. You can also offer specials and discounts in your first few months on the job. People love to save money and it is a good way to entice them to give you a chance. If you do a wonderful job, they will come back to you again and again. They will also encourage other people they know to come to you.

Designs and Art

Depending on where you work, you may have access to plenty of designs and artwork you can use for the nails. In other salons, you must have your own materials and equipment. The start-up cost can be high so you may find it is best to identify a location where you can use their items. Later on, you can consider buying your own items and even starting your own salon.

Build up your reputation first so you can be confident you will have plenty of money coming in. If you often have empty slots on your calendar, you aren't there yet! What Does a Level 4 Laser Training Programme Offer?

For those wanting or needing to carry out laser and IPL treatments at work, a Level 4 qualification is no longer just an option - it's a necessity. If you're in the beauty industry, you'll most likely know that the regulations were changed recently, and that this certification is now a mandatory requirement for insurance purposes.

Thankfully, there are institutions up and down the country providing courses that will qualify students to perform a variety of laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation services using lasers and intense pulse light (IPL). Upon successful completion, you will likely reach a high level of competence that will serve you well in your beauty career for years to come.

What with the new regulations, however, these courses are immensely popular so it's a good idea to start applying for a place as soon as possible. Having to wait around to qualify in this field could hamper your career or business- so it's important to book your place before they all fill up.

If you're thinking of obtaining one of these certificates (whether you're already an established beauty professional, or you're just starting out in the industry) you'll probably be wondering what to expect from the course.

This is where it pays to do a bit of research before the course begins. That way, you'll have a head start and will be able to deal more effectively with the workload from the very beginning.

The course structure may vary between institutions, but generally it will cover four units. The first unit will cover all the skills you need to analyse hair and skin type; identify treatment contradiction and risks; and formulate specific courses of treatment for each individual client. This is generally comes under the umbrella of the laser and IPL component of the course.

This unit will also teach you about laser and light treatments for hair-removal, ultimately equipping you with the skills and certification to perform this service in your place of work or as an individual.

In the skin rejuvenation unit, you will learn how to use laser and IPL to treat conditions such as age spots, sun damage, acne, pigmentation and even wrinkles. Once you're qualified, you will be able to practice these treatments in a variety of settings such as spas, salons and other health and beauty establishments.

You will also learn about client care and communication and how this can be specifically relevant to beauty-related industries. This is a vital part of your training going forward and will enable you to practice the best levels of customer service and care, perhaps giving you an edge above other practitioners.

Lastly, there will be a mandatory health and safety component of the course. This is where you will learn about the management of safety and security in the salon. This part of the course will not only teach you how to work safely for both yourself and your client, it will also help you learn how to identify risks and give you clear instruction about what to do in the event of a problem.

In terms of assessment, you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence of your new-found knowledge, as well as perform practical demonstrations and review case studies. Your portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills you have gained, and will also prove a useful resource to take forward into your new or existing employment.

Once you are qualified, you will be able to move forwards in your career, whether you choose to find paid work in a salon or spa, or even open your own clinic.

Quit Smoking - Using Clear Language To Achieve Your Goal

Words have enormous power to help, to damage, to confuse or to clarify. Out tone can mean we are being genuine or sarcastic, this must be extremely confusing for people trying to learn our language.

We make it even harder by speaking in metaphors, which would make no sense at all to a learner of English.

A smoker is at a crossroads in their lives. That has two meanings, of course you are not standing in the middle of the road but you are at a point where your life can go in a couple of directions depending on what choice you make.

We can create an equally confusing internal conversation. E.g. you might say " I will try to quit smoking" You may even say this out loud with great conviction and your conscious mind is completely focused.

But the term "try" implies failure to your unconscious mind, to try and pick up a pencil means you will attempt to but not succeed. If your intention is to pick up the pencil then you simply declare that you "will pick up the pencil" and it will happen.

Remember Yoda in Star Wars telling Luke to "try not to do, but to do"

Another point of clarity is to be very clear about why you want to quit.

Because it's bad for me, or I guess I should quit, or my family wants me to quit, these kinds of reasons are weak and they won't help you to quit at all.

But if you said "I will quit because my lungs are suffering, and I can't breathe easily and I definitely don't want to get lung cancer because it will be so painful for me and my family and friends, and I don't want to waste my life being ill"

This statement has a lot of power, and clarity and will drive you on to quitting, so that when you attend your quit smoking hypnosis you will be 100% focused on becoming a non-smoker.

Even when you look into your future it is dangerous to say things like " I don't know how I will manage without cigarettes, or I won't know what to do with my hands" etc.

How about seeing the future and simply saying "Life will be so much better as a non-smoker, it is so much easier to breathe, and I have lots of extra cash in my pocket each week.

Think clearly and speak clearly and quitting will be easier.

And now for you to discover the 5 big mistakes most people make when trying to quit smoking. go to http://howtoquitsmokingcigarettesnow.com/

Wishing you the best of health

What Is the Current Fastest and Most Efficient Way to Desalinate Water?

One of the most persistent needs of the world is supplying clean drinking water to its population. Today, nearly half of the world population does not have access to clean and fresh water. Ocean water is mostly salted and needs to be purified. This is the main reason for most countries adopting seawater desalination as a solution to provide their population with fresh and pure drinking water.

Seawater desalination though is an effective way to remove salts from ocean water but it cannot be used at large-scale because it's quite expensive and is also dangerous for living organisms. So, this makes for a need to find out ways to desalinate seawater.

A new way to desalinate water has developed known as shock electrodialysis, and not only removes salt but chemicals and bacteria present in water. Shock electrodialysis is capable of providing with a more efficient water purification system. It uses significantly less energy in comparison to the traditional desalination methods but has a limitation on the rate at which water can pass through the membrane.

To produce clean and fresh drinking water in a single step using the electrodialysis method, place a layer of porous material close to the cathode. This layer will act as a filter and removes everything that cannot pass through the micropores. The size of this layer is 0.5 micrometers so anything larger than that cannot pass through it. However, bacteria is smaller than the porous material layer and can easily pass through it but the experts argue that these also don't pass through because they get shattered by the powerful electric fields close to the cathode.

The Electrodialysis method allows chlorine and sodium ions to pass through the membrane in the presence of an electric field and leaving purified water from the outlet on the other side. Only the ions pass through the membrane and not the water molecules. Electrodialysis can desalinate seawater at a much higher rate in comparison to the reverse osmosis.

There is also a problem with this method that it removes the salt from seawater but it does not remove contaminants such as bacteria and dirt. Electrodialysis can be used for filtering and disinfect water in a cost-effective way but it's still not clear whether it can be used on a larger scale or not. So water should be processed through additional stages of filtration to make it usable for drinking and various other purposes.

You can get best quality seawater desalination plants installed at your place from https://www.ampac1.com/products/seawater-desalination, which is one of the leaders in advanced water purification systems in United States.

Know the Common Signs of Baby Teething

I still remember those sleepless nights when my six month old was teething. This was my first experience as a mum and when my little girl was cranky and irritated, especially at night, I was completely at a loss of how to soothe her. Thankfully, my trusted paediatrician and the all-time source of information 'the internet' came to my rescue. I found out that baby teething is a common affair when a child is between 4 to 6 months old. Just being aware of some of the common indicators of baby teething will help you to act and respond faster to your baby's needs.

Signs and symptoms

Every kid experiences different symptoms, say many reputed paediatricians.

Drooling: Trust me it's hard to believe so much fluid can come out from a baby's mouth unless you see it for yourself. Actually, teething stimulates drooling and it starts when the baby is between 10 weeks to two - three months old, though my daughter started when she was much older. I used to find her clothes always soggy which the paediatrician later on confirmed was due to teething.

Teething rash: Due to the continuous drooling and dripping, my baby started suffering from redness and rashes around her mouth, which according to the paediatrician was another symptom of teething. However, this was cured by applying baby nursing cream and lotion at regular intervals.

Coughing and/or gag: Drooling and dripping all the time can make your baby gag and cough too. Do not worry if your baby does not have any other signs of cold and flu.

Biting: This was the biggest problem when my little baby girl was teething. Pressure from the teeth poking through under the gums caused a lot of discomfort and to get instant relief, she was more inclined towards biting and chewing on just about anything that was in front of her.

Irritability: Don't know about others, but my daughter used to be extremely fussy throughout the day due to aching. The doctor explained to me that because of the pressure of the little tooth on the gum most children (if not all) are likely to be fussy and irritable, either for a few hours or throughout the day.

Pulling ears and rubbing the chin and cheeks: This was the weirdest symptom of all. My baby girl used to pull her ears a lot or used to rub her chin and cheeks. I was a little surprised by this behaviour, but the paediatrician relieved me by telling me that this behaviour indicates that your baby will soon have little pearly white teeth. According to her, babies usually do this to create counter pressure that eases some of the pain.

But as I said earlier, it is not mandatory for all babies to show the same teething signs. While some will have the symptoms as stated above, others will show other signs or no sign at all.

Other signs

Swollen gums: Swollen red gums are also a sign of teething, as was indicated by my paediatrician. For quick relief, gently rub your clean finger over the gums.

Refusing food: Often because of pain and irritation while teething, babies refuse to eat much. If it lasts long, then call your paediatrician and ask for a solution.

Gluten Free Diet - What You Should Know

Gluten is a combination of a variety of proteins that is found most often in wheat and other grains like rye and barley. In baked goods it adds the chewiness and texture to the products. It is also used in other foods as a thickener for broths and soups, protein supplement, and flavor enhancer. Some develop an intolerance or allergy to gluten and have to go on a gluten free diet. This happens because your body is unable to break down or digest the gluten protein. If you are new to this type of diet here are some things that you should know.

Gluten free is not more nutritious

Many people have the misconception that foods that are gluten free have more minerals and vitamins but this is not true. You can develop mineral and vitamin deficiencies quickly if you do not have the guidance of a nutritionist. Most of the foods that are not fortified or enriched with nutrients like iron and folic acid that wheat flours are. When you get rid of gluten, it will often mean adding more fat and sugar to your diet. When you take out the gluten the food will probably not taste as good so they add extra sodium, fat, and sugar to make up for the lack of taste. For example, a regular blueberry muffin has 340 calories with 24 grams of sugar and 17 grams of fat. Gluten free blueberry muffins have 370 calories and 31 grams of sugar and 13 grams of fat.

You could gain weight

Some think that when they go on gluten free diets that they will start to lose weight but there is no evidence that going gluten free is a good strategy to lose the extra weight. The reason that this diet could lead to obesity or being overweight is the extra calories, fat, and sugar. Those that have celiac disease, which is caused by gluten, will often gain weight when they first go free of gluten. This is because of the damage that gluten had caused to their small intestine prevents their body from digesting food the right way. Once gluten has been given up their digestive system will heal so they can absorb key nutrients and vitamins from the foods they are eating.

Your grocery bill may increase

Food that is free of this substance is more expensive that food that is not. It can be double the price or more. For example, a serving of regular brownies costs approximately 8 cents but for a serving of gluten free brownie is approximately 28 cents. One reason that they are more expensive is the added costs that the manufacturer incurs in order to meet labeling and certification regulations.

If you are someone residing in San Diego and are looking for the   best gluten free restaurants I recommend that you visit 2Good2B Bakery. This   San Diego gluten free bakery is much appreciated for the variety of food it offers.

Alcohol Rehab - What to Expect

When a person undergoes alcohol rehab, they will be treated for the psychological and physical addiction to alcohol. This treatment can take place on a residential or outpatient basis.

• Residential-this is for those that have a severe life threatening addiction to alcohol. The person would live at the treatment center so they can receive continual care.
• Outpatient-this is for those whose alcohol addiction is not life threatening. Their alcohol rehab treatments are conducted during the day at a treatment center and then when the treatment is done for the day they return home.

When you enter alcohol rehab there are stages, or steps, that you must go through in order to complete treatment.

Step 1

When you check into an alcohol rehab center the first thing that occurs immediately is the detoxification process. This is the process of stripping your body of poisons, addictive substances, and built-up waste. These things can sap your body of energy, stimulate allergies or inflammation, or cause illness. You will not be allowed any alcohol. If you are doing this as an outpatient, you will have to try to refrain from alcohol. If you do not think you can do this on your own, then you should opt for residential treatment. Because your body is used to having the alcohol you will most likely experience during the first three days physical withdrawal symptoms like:

• Chills
• Depression
• Sweating
• Blackouts
• Mood swings

It could take one to two weeks to cleanse your system completely but it all depends on how extensive your alcohol addiction is.

Step 2

Once you have finished with the detoxification process you will work on the psychological aspects of your addiction to alcohol. You will work with an addiction treatment counselor for private sessions. During these sessions, you will discuss any choices or life events that could have contributed to your alcohol addiction. The counselor will work you to offer some solutions if you have any behavioral or mental issues. Under the supervision of a counselor, during alcohol rehab you may meet with other recovering alcoholics in a group session. During these group sessions, you can share common experiences with each other. This type of therapy may be able to help you feel supported and understood by others that have the same problem.

Step 3

At this step, you are usually done with the main part of alcohol rehab. Once you leave treatment you may also attend Alcoholics Anonymous or an aftercare program to help you learn how coping strategies so you do not backtrack into alcohol. In these programs, it is a group therapy where you can get advice on how to deal with temptation and stay sober.

Benefits Of De-Addiction Programs: A Boon To Human Society

The term addiction or addict can be used in both positive and negative tone. A bookworm can also be an addict to knowledge. But usually, we consider an addict in a negative term if the person is found to be alcoholic or remain under the influence of a drug or taking any other substance to set free from the human sanity. From teenagers to frustrating middle-aged men and women are spotted under the influence of dangerous substance besides doing alcohol or nicotine. Those who want to get out of the situation and come back to the normal phase of life are often asked to attend de-addiction programs from where they can come out clean and move into the normal stream of life.

The benefits of de-addiction programs-

The listeners are there

The de-addiction programs are mostly residential which is like a medical rehab run by specialized doctors, nurses, and therapists helping the people that have been lost in the middle of nowhere because of the addiction of alcohol or drugs. The families or friends that are taking the responsibility of admitting the person to the rehab or the anti-addiction program should be well-aware of the staff and their behavior. They are supposed to be amiable and compassionate towards the person seeking help in the center. They are ought to be great listeners with a compassionate heart trying to reach the source of the depression or the reason for which the person took this dark lane of losing himself or herself.

Finely equipped

The rehab centers conducting the de-addiction programs are finely equipped with the state-of-art tools and medical instruments they require for the treatment. The patients are treated with medicines besides therapies. Certain doses of medicines are injected to them or offered orally to soothe their nerves in the initial phases when their body demands the chemicals or alcohol that they were addicted to. The doctors and the nurses out there are always available so that they can take immediate action during the emergencies.

Gifted with a new life

Mostly, the people tagged as addicts get back to the normal flow of life after attending the de-addiction program. They are gifted with a new lease of life where they can roam around like a free man or woman without doing the slavery of any addiction even a cigarette.

These are some of the most significant benefits of the de-addiction programs.

I've successfully run a de addiction program helping thousands of men and women fighting hard to come out of the influence of addiction they are in. My articles are also based on the related topics highlighting the benefits of the rehab programs.

What To Look For When Choosing A Vision Supplement For Better Vision

Nutritional supplements help you to compensate for nutritional shortfalls associated with diets that lack sufficient nutrients for better health. If you are interested in improving your vision health your eyes need important nutrients that you can get from a high quality vision supplement. However, it is important to follow certain helpful guidelines when choosing a vision supplement. Here are a few tips to help you to accomplish that goal:

Pay Attention To Expiration Dates: When choosing a vitamin supplement for better vision ensure that the seal is not broken and also check the expiration date to make sure that the product is still safe for use.

Stick to The Recommended Dosage: Never exceed the recommended dosage on the label but follow closely the dosage recommendations on the bottle. This is due to the fact that exceeding the dosage can cause negative side effects. Dosages that are too high may lead to toxicity. For instance, taking excessive dosages of vitamin A can cause liver problems.

Get a Pharmacist's Advice on Drug Interactions: If you are taking certain prescription medications and vitamins there are certain negative interactions that can happen in terms of drug and supplement interactions. For example, according to Dr. Julian Whitaker, there is a negative drug supplement interaction between the prescription drug Coumadin and Vitamin K thereby making the blood clotting abilities of the drug Coumadin less effective. Therefore, it is essential to find out from your physician whether or not certain nutritional supplements are safe to take with your prescription medications if you are taking these medications.

Avoid Unnecessary Fillers: Avoid buying nutritional supplements that consists of unnecessary fillers such as soy, gluten, wheat, corn, nuts and dairy products. Some of these can cause upset stomach and problems associated with allergies.

For Better Absorption Choose Gel caps or Capsules: When choosing an eye vitamin supplement for better vision avoid tablets. This is due to the fact that tablets are not properly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Capsules and gel caps are more absorbable.

Get a Trusted Brand: Look for the best brands in terms of quality, purity, safety, potency and bioavailability.

There are many different considerations and factors that go into making the right decisions in taking the right vitamin supplements for better vision. Some of these factors include paying attention to expiration dates and ultimately, choosing brands based on standards related to quality, safety, purity and bioavailability.

Vitamin Combination May Reduce Macular Degeneration

There is a case for taking vision supplements due to the fact that current farming practices that involve the use of fertilizers have led to the depletion of the nutrients in our soil. Therefore, we are not getting a sufficient amount of nutrition from food sources alone. While there is a benefit to incorporating such supplements into your diet you need to know what combination of nutrients are necessary to achieve the best health benefit from such nutritional sources. When it comes to protecting your eye health vitamin supplements consisting of the right nutrients and in the right nutritional combinations can actually reduce the risks for age related vision disorders. Therefore, here are some nutritional tips to help you to maximize the health benefits of your vision supplements so you can improve your vision health.

If you are in your middle ages chance are you have concerns about eye health related to the likelihood of developing age related vision diseases and conditions. As we age the health of our visual system begins to decline. Therefore, it requires greater attention in terms of nutritional care to stay in top shape. One example of an age related vision disease that is very prevalent among the aging population in the United States is Macular Degeneration. It is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. However, the good news is that there are nutritional steps that you can take to reduce or slow its progression so that you can still enjoy a good quality of life.

A 2001 study conducted by the National Eye Institute, better known as AREDS( The Age Related Eye Disease Study),showed some promise in the reduction of this eye disease when a combination of eye nutrients were taken together. This study showed a decline in the risks for the age related eye disease macular degeneration when test subjects took combinations of vitamins that included the eye Vitamins C, E, Beta Carotene and Zinc. This study measured the progress of 3600 test subjects over a 6 year period of time. The best results were reported by the participants who took the vitamins C, E, and Beta - Carotene along with Zinc.

An additional study conducted by The National Institutes of Health revealed that people who took Beta Carotene alone saw no improvement in their macular degeneration. A helpful word of advice regarding vitamin supplementation is to consult your physician to find out if there are any adverse interactions between vitamins and prescription medications. Also you can consult pharmacists or nutritionists who are knowledgeable about vitamin supplementation as they can help you make informed decisions on what combinations and dosages of vitamin supplements are safe to take.

Tips To Increase The Absorption Of Your Vision Supplements

There are some health benefits that are associated with taking nutritional supplements. For example, some people take nutritional supplements to solve health problems and health issues related to high blood pressure. Others rely on them to help them achieve their goals for weight loss. Additionally, eye vitamins such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin provide health benefits by increasing eyesight while protecting the eyes from free radical agents that can do damage to healthy eye cells. However, one of the major complaints from many consumers relates to the fact that people taking these supplements don't always seem to see the results that they desire. There are occasions whereby the fault is not really with the brand of the supplement but the fact that the body is not absorbing the nutrients in the vitamins properly. As a result of this problem the consumer only gets a measly 10% of the benefits of the product. Certainly, this is not enough at all to notice any significant improvement in their specific health condition. Therefore, here are some tips to help you increase the absorption of your nutritional supplements so that you can maximize the benefits you derive from these health products:

Take your vision supplements with Bioperine: If you are taking a vitamin to improve your vision, take it in conjunction with a product called Bioperine. Bioperine is considered to be one of the most effective nutrient enhancement supplements that increases the absorption and effectiveness of all other supplements. It consists of standardized black pepper extract and contains 95% of the active ingredient called piperine that increases nutrient absorption.

According to a study published by the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine the active ingredient in Bioperine called piperine has been shown to increase absorption levels of various vitamins such as Vitamin C, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and CoenzymeQ10. Further evidence from the study suggests that Bioperine is useful in helping people improve conditions that are related to the poor absorption of nutrients. Additional research has also revealed that it serves a useful purpose in preventing the development of uric acid crystals. For this reason it is a good treatment for people suffering from Gout.

Bioperine is generally considered to be a safe supplement and does not cause adverse reactions with vitamins, minerals and natural supplements. However, health care practitioners warn that a potential side effect of piperine; the active ingredient in Bioperine, is the fact that it may increase the absorption of prescription drugs to dangerous blood levels in the body. Therefore, it should never be taken in conjunction with prescription drug medications.

As a consumer you want to get the maximum benefit from your nutritional supplements. Therefore, one of the effective ways to maximize the health benefits of your vision supplements is to increase the absorption of these health products by taking them in conjunction with Bioperine. The active ingredient in Bioperine,Piperine, will not only make nutritional supplements more effective, but published studies suggests additional health benefits related to the treatment of Gout. Ultimately, Bioperin can lead to an improvement in the health of people suffering from conditions related to a deficiency in nutrient absorption.

Is There A Danger In Taking Too Many Nutritional Suppplements?

If you believe that you are not getting a sufficient amount of nutrients from food sources alone, then it is necessary to supplement your diet with a good high quality multivitamin. One that provides the kind of nutritional coverage to increase your general health and at the same time provides your eyes with the nutrition necessary for healthy vision. However, according to health care practitioners consumers need to become aware of the dangers involved with taking too many nutritional supplements at the same time. Therefore, here is some information regarding the health risks associated with taking too many nutritional supplements and what you can do to prevent this problem form occurring.

If you lack sufficient vitamins and minerals in your diet, while taking nutritional supplements is a good idea, exceeding the recommended dosages and taking too many supplements at the same time can cause side effects and health problems. Take for instance; in the case of the vision nutrient Vitamin A, if you take more than enough of the recommended dosage of this antioxidant, let's say for example, well above the recommended dosage for Vitamin A, and consume 100,000 IUs of this nutrient every day, continuously for months, you will experience nausea, vomiting and even vertigo.
In the case of Vitamin A the liver already stores active reserves of this antioxidant. Therefore, due to the fact that the liver is the place for storage of this nutrient, its capacity for storage can exceed its limits especially if you go well over the recommended dosage for daily consumption. This can overwhelm the liver and cause dangerous levels of this nutrient to build up in your system. This can result in liver toxicity.

According to Web MD while the recommended dosages of vitamin C don't really causes side effects, mega dosages of this antioxidant can result in side effects such as nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps. Similarly, exceeding the limit for the mineral selenium can result in side effects such as hair loss, fatigue, gastrointestinal problems and mild nerve damage.

Your body is very capable of managing nutrients and discarding what is does not need when nutrients and vitamins occur in food. It is also capable of this same ability with most vitamins due to the fact that most vitamins are water soluble (able to be dissolved in water). Therefore, the body gets rid of excess nutrients it does not need through the process of urination. However, this does not apply to some vitamins that are fat soluble, (vitamins stored in the fat stores of the body). This is due to the fact that these kinds of vitamins when taken in excess cannot be excreted by the body and end up accumulating in your system to toxic levels. Examples of fat soluble vitamins include Vitamins A, D, E and K. Trace minerals like Selenium can also build up to toxic levels in the body when taken in excess.

Some people also tend to go completely overboard and end up taking 15-20 supplements daily. This can cause serious health problems due to the fact it can overwhelm the liver and the kidneys and lead to toxicity. To avoid such problems it is better to take a comprehensive supplement that consists of most of the nutrients you need for better health to reduce the number of vitamins you need to take. This will limit expenses and also eliminate unwanted side effects. If you are taking 5-7 different vitamin supplements health care practitioners advise splitting these up during different periods of the day instead of taking a bunch of supplements altogether at the same time.

What can you do additionally, to stop taking too many vitamins? You can always read labels and follow the recommended dosages only. You can also get advice from your nutritionists or pharmacists as to the safety levels of vitamin supplements. When it comes to maintaining health safety should always be your top priority. For this reason, become an educated consumer on the recommended dosages for your nutritional supplements, according to your nutritional needs, and have a qualified health care practitioner assist you in making such decisions.

The Healing Power of Expression

This king of therapy. It's the use of artistic expression - painting, sculpting, drawing, music, dance, and writing - to heal those suffering from a crisis, illness, or trauma. According to Sigmund Freud, psychological well-being, art, and the subconscious are all connected. Through the years, various psychologists and doctors have explain the relationship between expression and the mind, and Margaret Naumburg began to experiment and get art therapy to be more seriously considered as a treatment option.

Today, it is much more widely used and accepted, and is of principle help for children. Not only can it help treat psychological disorders, but help control stress, depression, eating disorders, traumas, sleeping disorders, and overall general health. Versus traditional methods, it is much friendlier for both children and adolescents when compared to other therapies and helps them to better explain what is difficult to express in words.

Many, many people have found healing through art therapy, thanks to dedicated art therapists.

What is an Art Therapist and What Do They Do?

An art therapist is not only trained in the arts, but also in psychotherapy and human development, as well as education. They are focused on guiding people to discover, construct, and then interpret their own mental images. They are often supported by an art healing foundation or an art therapy foundation.

The materials used are as varied as the number of techniques there are to use them - from watercolor to oil paints, colored pencil to charcoal, guitar to piano, hip hop to expressive dance, paper mach to digital painting. The possibilities are absolutely endless, with solutions for everyone, independent of age, skill, trauma, or preference.

Art therapy sessions can be individual or in groups. Sometimes a mix is used, where the art therapist individually guides and assists the patient in their own personal journey, and then group sessions work on common issues and solutions.

Is There More Than One Kind of Art Therapy?

There are several variations, each providing a different level of support and therapy:

Expressive arts, which are used to help state, express, manifest, discuss, promote, question, and innovate.

Therapeutic art has the purpose of helping to create personal images and promotes profound expression. It is meant to help look for paths and solutions, as well as help with processes such as grief. There are many art therapy foundations that try and provide these types of services, or funding for these types of services.

Art psychotherapy, also greatly supported by art healing foundations, is much more deeply connected with psychology. It uses creative interventions to help promote personal expression.

Who is Art Therapy recommended For?

Art therapy is recommended when someone desires to:

Know themselves better

Define their direction in life

Make decisions

Better interpersonal relations

Or when one suffers from:

Depression

Anxiety

Shyness

Stress

Divorce grief

Trauma (kidnapping, rape, violence, deaths)

Sleep disorders

Psychological abuse

Eating disorders

Art therapy can be useful for couples, children, families, or individuals.

If you are searching for art healing foundation
or maybe art therapy foundation you came into right place.

How to Sleep Better: Studies on Eating Healthy Fats

The link between what we eat and how we sleep is closely related, especially when it comes to consuming healthy fats.

In an article from the journal "Endocrinology - An Integrated Approach" (endocrinology deals with the glands and hormones), the author writes that all hormones are made from cholesterol. This includes estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, adrenal gland hormones, vitamin D, and the sleep hormone melatonin.

Eating healthy fats with our meals can play a vital role in helping us sleep better and achieve greater health, as these provide the basic building blocks for cholesterol production and hormones. The best fats to eat are nutrient rich foods like eggs, natural butter, salmon, sardines, shrimp, cod liver oil, avocados and coconut oil.

Dr. Joseph Mercola, a physician trained in both traditional and natural medicine who provides up-to-date natural health information says: "If you're confused about cholesterol, it's not your fault. Cholesterol has been a highly publicized scapegoat for causing heart disease for decades, and many have diligently cut all cholesterol-rich foods (which are often also nutrient-rich foods) from their diets as a result."

For good heart health, Dr. Mercola says to: "Replace harmful vegetable oils and synthetic hydrogenated fats such as margarine with healthy fats, including olive oil, butter, avocado, pastured eggs and coconut oil (remember olive oil should be used cold only - use coconut oil for cooking and baking)."

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, M.D., says: "Hormones accomplish a myriad of functions in the body, from regulation of our metabolism, to energy production, mineral assimilation, brain, muscle, and bone formation, to behavior, emotion and reproduction... People whose bodies are unable to produce enough cholesterol do need to have plenty of foods rich in cholesterol in order to provide their organs with this essential-to-life substance."

Milk is well-known for its positive effects on sleep, and dairy foods contain cholesterol, however some people are not able to digest dairy well and are better able to assimilate fermented dairy foods. Milk also has the benefit of containing calcium, which has been found in studies to soothe insomnia.

In one study from the European Journal of Clinical Neurology, researchers tested the use of milk that was fermented with yogurt cultures for its effect on sleep quality. They discovered that there was a significant improvement in the time needed to fall asleep, as well as a reduced number of night time awakenings for the participants who drank the fermented milk daily. No significant changes in sleep were observed for the placebo group.

Regarding the use of minerals for better sleep, one study called "The Nutritional Relationships of Magnesium", notes that the type of insomnia associated with a calcium deficiency causes difficulty with falling asleep. The classical sign of magnesium deficiency is insomnia characterized by falling asleep easily, but awakening frequently throughout the night, with individuals finding themselves tired even after several hours of sleep.

A balanced calcium magnesium ratio is important to overall health, and these two minerals should be taken together for best results, in a two to one ratio with twice as much calcium as magnesium. The original research on this recommended ratio appeared in 1935 in the Journal of Physiological Reviews.

In summary, eating good healthy fats and also taking enough sleep-inducing minerals, can be a good combination for achieving better sleep.

The Self Language Of Anti-Aging

I had a lengthy breakfast with a friend yesterday, we are both 60 and both very engaged in martial arts, he has had a hip replacement and I've had both knees reconstructed. As we stood up to leave we both groaned, he from back pain and me trying to enthuse my knees.

I joked about feeling stiff and sore after a long bingo session at the retirement village. Sure for us it's a joke because we are both very fit and active in spite of past injuries but it is important to be careful how we speak about our age, out capacity and our health.

I know people my age who are old physically and mentally. The move, act and think like an elderly person.

I also know elderly people who have more energy than many 40 year olds. The difference is largely in their thinking.

When people are faced with challenges it is common for them to focus on what they can't do and they forget what they can do. A lady I spoke to recently, who is just a little older than me, told me that she doesn't get out much, that she has a lot of pain, that she smokes heavily for the pain and that she was good at keeping appointments.

Nowhere in her conversation did she discuss what she could do. It took some doing to have her think that smoking was making things worse, and that if she quit she would be so much better off. But a big problem was that she was thinking like she was at the end of her days, and not a 63 year old with some problems, most of which could be solved if she decided to take action.

How often do you here "I'm too old for that" or "I'm not as young as I used to be" or it's all right for you young people"

I'm not saying that aging is a barrel of laughs, but we are all doing it. It's just a matter of how we do it. How we think, how we speak, the people we spend time with, how active we choose to be, what we choose to eat or not eat. Sure aging is in our cells but it is also in our minds.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been told that "I don't have time to exercise" or "it hurts to exercise" We all have time for the things we decide are important, and don't do the things that hurt you, find things that don't hurt and do them. It's your choice how you age.

Diabetes And Your Kidneys - Are You Keeping An Eye On Both?

Diabetes can affect the kidneys and lead to a condition called diabetic nephropathy. It is a common complication of diabetes that can lead to treatments such as dialysis if timely help is not sought.

The human kidneys are our waste portal. They filter out the blood, ridding it of impurities which are then passed out in the urine. In order for them to function well, they need to work at full capacity at all times, without being affected by any disease.

Diabetes has a detrimental effect on the health of the kidneys. It affects its filtering capacity, leading to the accumulation of toxins in the blood stream. This can be harmful to a patient's health.

One such product that is filtered out by the kidneys when ti is affected by diabetes is protein. In fact, one of the first signs that diabetes is affecting the kidneys is the presence of small amount of protein in the urine. This is usually a microscopic amount and is called microalbuminuria.

As this protein loss increases, the individual begins to become weak. Furthermore, this excess filtering of protein through the kidney can put a lot of stress on it, leading to kidney failure over a period of time.

In other words, if the right steps are not taken in the early stages, kidney disease that sets in later could cause terrible complications and affect the quality of life of the patient.

In addition to diabetes affecting the kidneys, high blood pressure can have an added effect. High blood pressure, or hypertension, often occurs concurrently with diabetes. The two together put a great deal of stress on the kidney, and increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

If you suffer from high blood pressure and diabetes simultaneously, you will have to take extra precautions to protect your kidneys. If left untreated, you place your kidneys at risk of failing, and increase the need for early dialysis.

Treating Diabetic Nephropathy

The first step is to adopt the right lifestyle measures as advised to control both blood sugar and blood pressure. Reducing the intake of sugars, sweets, juices and salt are all advised. Regular exercise in the form of aerobic activity is recommended as per the guidelines laid down by the American Heart Association.

Medication for managing both diabetes and your kidneys are now available and must be taken as prescribed. However, sometimes despite your very best efforts, it is possible to take insufficient medications that need to be tweaked according to the clinical response seen.

Finally, if all treatments fail to protect the kidneys, then dialysis may be needed.

Conclusion

Diabetes related kidney disease can be prevented through lifestyle modifications and medications. Make sure the advice given to you by your doctor is followed to the "T"!

How to Cope With Common Mental Health Problems

Do you want better mental health? Are you looking for simple, yet effective tips on how to cope better with your mental health diagnosis? Many people with mental illnesses struggle with anxiety, isolation, and obesity. If you are dealing with any one of these problems and want solutions please keep reading.

The first problem I would like to discuss is anxiety. Anxiety can make living a nightmare depending on its severity. Many people have a continuous cycle of anxiety because they have trained their brain to think as such. Anxiety can be caused by many factors like nutritional deficiencies, but the one I want to focus on is the one where people have picked up the habit of worrying simply because they had no knowledge of anything better to do instead of worry. One solution to this problem could be to simply train your brain to replace what you are worrying about with something positive. For example if you are worrying about losing your job you could replace it with I don't know if I will lose my job, but there are many jobs out there and I will find another if this happens. Also, I have been through difficult times I can get through this too. This kind of thinking will put you in a place of peace to come up with a solution instead of focusing on the negative, which only makes you worry more. Start thinking this way and your anxiety is sure to improve. Another effective method is to journal. Yes, journalling has many great benefits.Just Google it and you will see. Journalling for anxiety is very effective because you can get all your troubling thoughts onto paper and look for a solution to your problems instead of them being jumbled up in your mind. Journalling for anxiety will definitely give you peace of mind and help you think clearer. Also writing in a journal everyday in general is a good way to improve mental health because you will start to see patterns that keep you stuck in your daily life you wouldn't normally see.

The second problem I would like to discuss is isolation. Many people with mental illnesses live in isolation because of the shame of their diagnosis and many others because they just don't have the social skills to build new relationships. So I want to shine some light on how to overcome this problem. One way is to educate yourself. Educate yourself on how to build self-esteem especially when it comes to the stigma of mental illness. Also, educate yourself on how to build social skills. Yes, this will take some work on your part, but it is worth it. Another way to come out of isolation is to volunteer. Yes, you heard me right, volunteer. There is no better way to overcome loneliness than to do what you love and learn valuable job skills that can be beneficial for a future job. Also, as you learn social skills you can practice them on your co- workers. Last, but not least join a support group. This will help to put you around others who understand what you are going through and it will be easier to make friends because you have things in common. Also, more than likely it will be very therapeutic.

The last problem I would like to discuss is obesity. Many people with mental illnesses are obese because of their medications. They complain, but they never get around to doing anything about it. So, what I would like to do is give some suggestions on how to improve this condition. First, realize that this does not have to be the state you have to stay in. Awareness is the first step toward change. Next, make goals on what you want to achieve. This can be how many pounds you want to be, how often you will have to exercise, the kinds of foods you will have to eat, beverages you will have to stay away from and etc. Then make a list of the resources you will have to get like exercise equipment, fitness books, fitness gear and etc. After that, figure out how you can reach your goal the most fun. Also, have a fitness journal to track progress and if you fall off for a day or two or however many, write how you can improve. See if you can get others to help you. Two is always better than one, but if you can,t no worries you can do it alone also. Also, consult with a doctor before exercising.

Remember, it is vital we take care of our mental health. Yes, medications are important, but we also have to take it a step forward and do things like exercise, eat well, drink water, and manage anxiety because no one else is going to do it for us. You only get one body, mind, and spirit and it's up to us to take care of them. So, make sure you do your best to do so.

Sports Injuries That Require Attention From a Shoulder Surgeon

Every now and then, we hear sportsmen suffering from injuries. While they tend to get hurt practically everywhere on their body, one of the most common spot that is susceptible to injury is the shoulder. The most common shoulder injuries seen on field include dislocations, Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries, rotator cuff tear, shoulder labrum tear thrower's shoulder, biceps injuries, bursitis and fractures. While dislocations and ACJ injuries are more common in contact sports, such as rugby and wrestling, rotator cuff tears and SLAP lesions are common in sports involving explosive heavy weight-lifting.

Usually, it is quite difficult to identify the severity of a shoulder injury. Which is why, people tend to ignore them further aggravating the injury. Thus, it is advised that early assessment from a skilled

Shoulder Surgeon or Therapist is the right way forward when experiencing discomfort in the shoulders.

There are number of injuries known to be common on field. The most prominent of which are listed below:

Shoulder Dislocations

Being the most mobile joint in the body also makes the shoulder potentially unstable. Therefore, it becomes a common joint for dislocations in the body. Minor traumas in the shoulder result in the shoulder to 'pop out' of the joint. To fix it, the doctor fixes it back into the joint following by rounds of physiotherapy.

But, more than half of dislocations hold possibility of recurrence, especially among the youth indulging in sports. Repeated dislocations lead to more instability and stretching of the shoulder joint that require long periods of rest and decreased performance. Therefore, it is generally recommended that one should opt for shoulder dislocation surgery before the injury aggravates.

Rotator Cuff Tears

The rotator cuff is a crucial bunch of tendons that provide movement and stability for the shoulder. Therefore, in the event of damage, pain and weakness in the area can be significant. Those who choose to fix these tears early show faster recovery. That's because when left unattended, these tears get bigger and more difficult to repair later on. Rotator cuff repair can be done by keyhole surgery or open surgery.

SLAP Lesions

Superior Labral Antero-Posterior (SLAP) tears of the shoulder are common among those in sports requiring overhead throwing, heavy lifting and tackling. In most cases, the biceps anchor in the shoulder is forcibly peeled or pulled off its bone attachment by a large pulling or peeling force. This can occur during a heavy lift, hard throw, tackle or fall. As for symptoms, deep pain is experienced inside the shoulder owing to the heavy duty lifting action the patient is subjected to.

Arthroscopic shoulder surgery (keyhole surgery), is the recommended courses of action to treat such cases.

Shoulder Labrum Tear

The labrum is a cushion like muscle surrounding the socket of the shoulder joint that is susceptible to tear. Common causes behind these tears are attributed to falls or direct blows to the shoulder, but may also occur with throwing or pulling injuries. Larger tears are generally associated with shoulder dislocations and are called Bankart tears.

Shoulder Fractures

Fractures around the shoulder have always been difficult to treat surgically. But with new fixation devices and safer surgical techniques, doctors are now capable of fixing difficult fractures early and allow swifter recoveries from injuries.

How to Deal With Anxiety and Stress - 5 Best Ways

Perhaps no other word is so well known and so constantly passed around as the words "anxiety," "depression," and "stress." But while these words have been making the rounds of the worlds of young adults - and even children - these days, it comes as a mammoth surprise how little people actually know of their connotations. Most of the people, most of the time, will know that they are suffering from a severe case of anxiety and depression but will hardly ever know what to do next. Knowledge pertaining to anxiety and depression usually ends at just being aware of the problem - as, for the solution, it is bare to be seen.

Adults have always had the most complaints regarding their being depressed but as we move on we find an alarming number of young adults and children joining the brigade of the depressed and the stressed. In most of the cases the cause of stress and anxiety is not difficult to put down either - financial problems, childhood abuse, post-traumatic stress, loss of a loved one, failure - there is an entire list of things that could cause stress and anxiety in a person. And while it is important, most certainly, to point out what the root cause of depression really is, what is equally important and is totally dismissed is the solution - people often focus on the cause, and the effect, but never the solution.

This is exactly where the misplaced priority lies and needs to be corrected - and it needs to be corrected immediately for anxiety and stress are phenomena that gradually and eventually break a person down completely. Before that breaking point is reached, it is imperative that such depressing phenomena are dealt with accordingly.

It is easy to identify feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety. The symptoms are telltale and all too common as of today - there is a general feeling of dejection and sadness, the person feels the constant need to isolate himself, doesn't talk to people or sit with people or hang around people in general, and lacks both in his sleep and nutrition. People suffering from the like might not know instantly that there is something off, but over time it becomes evident that there is a perpetual feeling of unhappiness that surrounds them, topped with nervousness, helplessness, worthlessness, and other such feelings.

Generally, the aura is negative, pessimistic, and cynical. Silver linings are not to be seen and optimism becomes an archaic concept. These are people for whom the glass is either half empty, or poisoned, or simply not there. A sense of loss envelops them and failure seem to overshadow all achievements. And while such people might be shunned and written off as "melodramatic," depression, stress, and anxiety are all too real and all too problematic to be brushed under the carpet so fleetingly. If and as soon as a person realizes he is a victim of anxiety - or even if people around him realize such - he needs to be cured of the devil's disease: because the longer one stays under grey clouds, the more he is prone to delve into grey areas better not penetrated if one's own welfare is dear.

So how exactly do you overcome anxiety or work towards curing it if you realize you're a victim? Well, a visit to the therapist or a psychiatrist does sound like a good enough idea but here's a list of things that will better help you in taking care of yourself - and none of these tidbits will force you to open up in front of a person when you'd rather drown in the depths of self-pity:

1. Exercise

It might sound odd, yes, but exercising not only relaxes your muscles - it relaxes your body in its entirely. Exercising has always been good for the body, good for the soul, and good for the spirit. Take out half an hour - just a measly 30 minutes - from your daily routine and work those muscles off. Let the heat out - and pull the fresh air in.

2. Yoga

Meditation is not known for its therapy like effects for nothing. Meditating for even 20 minutes each morning will let you revel in a sense of calmness and serenity as you never felt before. Yoga is a perfect medium of cure when it comes to stress that as spread to all parts of your body - remember, when the heart is sick, you need to sit back and let it all out into thin air. Yoga or meditation offers a great therapy for those under stress.

3. Say No to Caffeine

This might sound harsh - but you need to cut down on caffeine intake. Drop coffee. Drop tea. Go with water or juices. Alcohol and caffeine can technically infuriate and stress you further - which is something you do not want happening to you.

4. EAT

Yes, stress and anxiety do make you want to not eat, not do anything basically, but you do need to eat and eat properly. Do not skip meals, no matter how badly you want to. Go with your proper intake of meals, and keep your body in perfectly nutritious balance. A healthy body is a key to a healthy spirit - and stress sickens the spirit as well as the body. Work on feeding both!

5. SLEEP

Even if you are not drowsy. Just lie down. Close your eyes. Try and go into that sweet place called dreamland and forget about your fears for once. Sleep is an extremely important factor in people's health and especially for people who suffer from anxiety and stress. These people usually end up patients of insomnia and with huge eye bags which make them look like half vampires and half zombies - lack of sleep also is ill for your general health. It makes you cranky, and even angrier. Not to mention less energetic. You will feel drowned, exhausted, and more stressed out than normal. It is a fact well known that proper sleep leads to a proper functioning of the body - and leads to a proper cure for anxiety as well!

Silent Epidemic: Dealing With Mental Health Problems in School Students

Mental health problems are common, ranging from simple mental disorders such as depression and anxiety to more rare conditions such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and schizophrenia. Mental disorders can occur to anyone, irrespective of race, gender, ethnicity or age group. And, when it comes to children, mental health conditions can hamper their ability to cope with the pressures of school, interacting with friends or society.

Surprisingly, the rate of prevalence of mental disorders in school-going children is almost similar to that of adults. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), just over 20 percent (or 1 in 5) children experienced serious symptoms of mental health condition either currently or at some point during their life. Fortunately, most mental disorders are treatable, and a lot of individuals with some sort of mental disability continue to function normally in their daily life.

Mental disorders in school-going children can have severe consequences

Despite alarming statistics, mental health problems continue to remain a silent epidemic in school. Mental disorders in children can range from common conditions such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and behavior disorders, to Tourette's syndrome, eating disorder or depression.

However, be it any disorder, a mental health condition is sure to deteriorate a child's quality of life. These illnesses, in fact, become a hindrance for their career and in leading a healthy life. As a result, they tend to isolate themselves from others, become silent and remain aloof from their family and friends. While parents of these children are aware about the condition, their silence and alienation is often misinterpreted by their teachers and school staff, which further adds to their dismay and distress.

Studies have shown that the symptoms of most mental disorders start appearing in the early childhood, however, a few of them may also develop throughout the teenage years. Often, signs such as increased obedience, silence, alienation, etc., could be suggestive of an underlying mental disorder, however, they are often treated as normal behavioral traits, and hence, overlooked.

According to experts, schools can play an important role in identifying students with mental health conditions and in enabling them to receive the required help. For instance, students who consistently show their reluctance to go to school may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Students facing problems in concentrating or exhibiting hyperactivity in school may have underlying ADHD or other related disorder. Apart from showing increased absenteeism, a mentally ill child is fearful of making new friends, hesitates in interacting with teachers or other students or remains extremely silent in class.

Mental disorders in children, if left untreated, may lead to severe consequences affecting their overall development and growth. Hence, the need of the hour is to educate the teachers and school staff about the signs and symptoms of commonly occurring mental disorders in children, so that they can be provided with the required help and support at the right time.

Seeking professional help

Schools are the interface between the children and the outer world. While almost all children suffer from anxiety in their initial school days, a few others exhibit the symptoms that prevail until adulthood. Thus, schools can play an important role in helping these children cope with their symptoms. It is important to diagnose mental illnesses at the earliest so that a proper treatment can be provided to ensure minimum damage. Mental illnesses, such as anxiety disorders, can significantly disrupt the day-to-day activities, especially in children, putting their adulthood at stake.
