How To Keep Your Home Healthy

For most of us, home is our sanctuary and it is a healthy place to be. When asked the question is yours a healthy home, you probably feel that it is. Chances are you are probably right.

Cleaning your kitchen counters, dusting furniture, vacuuming carpets, washing floors and windows are the obvious things most of us do to keep our homes free of dirt, remove germs and maintain a healthy environment. However, those tasks are not enough to maintain a healthy home.

Because we can't always see what lingers in the air we breathe, we do not see the indoor pollution that surrounds us. We spend more than 90% of our time indoors and according to the EPA, indoor pollutant levels can be up to 100 times higher than outdoors. If you do not use an air purification system, do you know what happens? The average adult breathes over 3,000 gallons of air each day, so our bodies become the air purifier.

What causes indoor air pollution?
There are a variety of reasons: smoke, mold spores, pet dander, human skin flakes, dust mites, dust particles, chemicals in household cleaners and detergents, air fresheners, chemicals from carpet and furniture fabrics, and mold spores in ventilation ducts. In addition to that, there are germs, bacteria and viruses that blow in through open windows and doors, or get brought in by you, your family and pets. Do you know what comes home with kids from school? They bring home who knows what from the school rooms, playgrounds and from other kids.

What about Water?
Your body is about 75% water and that number decreases as you age. Water is essential to your survival. Tap water in nearly every city in the country has a variety of chemicals in it. Some of these chemicals are actually put in by the city because they believe they will kill germs and remove other contaminants and metals. Flouride, which we now know is a harmful chemical is one of the ones that is put in virtually all water in water processing plants. There is also pollution from pharmaceuticals in lot of tap water and many dissolved solids that are not very good for you. That is why everyone should consider water filtration. It is important to stay hydrated with healthy water - water that will minimize the effects of acid, helps to remove toxins and easily hydrates your body.
