Jesus Loves You

John 3:16

The eternal spring of love flows from God himself. He is the fountain of love, God is love according (Jh. 4:7) "God is love."

He is eternal, the same yesterday today and forever, he has Almighty power, He speak and it is done, He has all knowledge and wisdom and is everywhere at the same time. But here in this setting John speak of God being love.

The Lord could have destroyed the world in the days of the flood, but chose the way of love "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (Gen. 6:9)

(Hebrew 2:3) ask this question? "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation." All people must stand before the Lord in the future.

Now, let us take a look at how God regards the world and what he would do for it are here set before us.

The world is a perishing world. If those believing in Jesus will not perish, the conclusion is plain that those who remain unbelieving in Christ will perish. "that whosoever believeth in him should not PERISH" (v.16)

The word might have been, God so loved the world as to fill it with all manner of things pleasant to the eye and ear and taste, comforts and numberless blessing for the temporal needs of man.

But the word perish is brought in and so we are forced to think, first of all, not of comforts and blessing, but of perils.

Drop the word "perish" out of the text, and the profit of all the rest is gone. The world is a perishing world, and we are perishing in the midst of it "Labour not for the meat which perisheth. (Jh. 6:27)

The assumption that man is a perishing being without Christ underlines every page of the scripture, and is implied in every doctrine of the gospel. The very fact that there is a gospel is the proof that the gospel is need.

None but he, who made us can have a adequate sense of the ruin of our nature through sin. Paul said in (Rom. 6:23) " For the wages of sin is death,"

The feeling of our danger needs to be produced and intensified in us. Yes danger gets hidden from our eyes by present comforts and enjoyment.

God know how indifferent we are, how we play with danger, and style those who would impress us with their bigotry and impudent. (Mt. 24:11) declares "many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many."
We need God's grace to open our eyes to spiritual danger as well as offering to us spiritual blessing.

The feeling of danger will never come of itself "and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away," (Mt. 24:39 The danger is a spiritual one, and hence only as the Spirit of God takes hold of us shall we feel how real and great the danger is.

There will be no fear of our failing to see the danger when, once the Holy Spirit gets full control in our life.
We are to ever remember that part of the work of the Holy Ghost is to press upon us our need of salvation and our debt to our Savior "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:" (Jh. 16: 13)

When we come to see danger, the Savior will be welcomed into our life.

We cannot look to one another for salvation "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given under among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

The perishing cannot help the perishing. We need a Saviour who does not need to be saved himself. Jesus has all power in heaven and earth.

It is a grand thing to point, not to a feeble, uncertain earthly friend, but to a heavenly one.
When we feel ourselves to be perishing, we shall rejoice in being able to look to such a Savior.
Faith grows gradually and strongly when the Saviour is daily in our soul and mind and continually in our thoughts.

With salvation ever more and more present to us as a reality, the sense of God's love to the world will be also more and more an inspiring power in our hearts.
(Rom.6:23) " For the wages of sin is death,"
