Judgment: Where Do We Stand?

The Judgment is certain. It is a matter of definite revelation. John said he saw a great number of people standing before God in Rev. 20:12,13 "... And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works... And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works."

The judgment is necessary for the vindication of Divine justice. God has decreed it, and reason enforced it. "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die" (Gen.2:17).

The judgment is necessary for the vindication of Divine justice. Why? God knows all things. Therefore, so that grace will be glorified in and by the saints of God. Note what Peter stated in I Pet 1:13, "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." Secondly, so that the wicked may be convinced of their sin and defect, and that God's justice may be cleared." And then, "Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightiest be justiced when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest" (Ps. 51:4).

Christ will be the judge. He will be setting on the throne judging all of mankind. First, this will be a very solemn fact for those who have rejected Jesus' salvation and his rule.

Secondly, this will be a very sober fact for those who have treated his claims with neglect and indifference. "Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian" (Acts 26:28).

Thirdly, this will be a very earnest fact for those who have professed to believe on Christ, but in works have denied him. Fourthly, The judgment will be a very joyous fact for all who have loved, confessed, and served Christ. There is a very impressive fact that the One who died for the sinner will judge them. "Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him: and they also which pierced him: and all kindred of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen" (Rev.1:7).

All will stand before Christ's judgment-seat in the life hereafter. Not one person will be missing. How vast an assembly that will be. A great multitude, yet no one will be lost in the crowd, (Rev.7:9) declared, "After this I beheld, and, Lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindred, and people, and tongues stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; We shall be conscious of the great number which no man can number, and yet be impressed with our individuality. For we must all appear one by one." Everyday, the sinner is brought a day nearer to that dread gathering. "And he said unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless... Then said the king to the servants, bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth... For many are called, but few are chosen" (Mt.22:12-14).

At the Judgment-seat of Christ there will be a great revelation made to man. Of character, of condition, and of life. We shall be made manifest, Life secrets will cease, successful deception will be successful no longer, all veils and disguises will be torn off, the world as well as God will see us as we are.

At the Judgment of Christ people will receive their reward. Judgment will be according to the deeds of your life. The faithful will be justified by faith which produces works. Profession will go for very little "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works... I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Mt.7;22,23).

Profession will then go for very little. Lord, Lord will be but an empty cry. The ability to pray fluently, or to preach eloquently, will not come into the account, nor the ability to appear extremely pious. The big question will be, what faith has wrought in us? We know that faith without works is dead. Note what Paul stated in (Gal.5:6) "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircrcumcision; but faith which worketh by love." The distinction between good and evil will be strictly drawn at the Judgment. The scripture seem to tell us there will be degrees of reward and punishment. Some saved as by fire, some having an abundant entrance, some beaten with few stripes, some with many. What we do now we shall receive in the future. We are now writing the sentence of the judgment. Time is sowing, Judgment is reaping.
Everyday we live, our judgement is coming closer. Rev.7:9
