Some of the devastating complications of Type 2 diabetes include heart and blood vessel disease, kidney disease, and high blood pressure. Unfortunately, the vegetables did not lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes itself. The investigators concluded their work demonstrated a protective effect of onions and garlic on the heart, blood vessels, and kidney diseases often associated with high blood sugar levels and Type 2 diabetes.
